Grease Traps and Coffee Traps, built and designed for heavy duty business!

Our FOG Blog today is something I’m sure a lot of you can relate to! We have all had to replace our phone screen at some stage, or at least know somebody who was unfortunate enough to have the screen of their smartphone smashed. Today’s blog focuses on a new type of glass which has just been newly manufactured that may put an end to this costly problem that many of us know about all too well!

Scientists in Japan have been working tirelessly to develop this new glass in time for Christmas. It is made from alumina (an oxide of aluminium) and has some of the same properties as metal, including strength and durability. Making such a high quality, strong product takes a lot of time and effort. The Japanese team of scientists that are base out of the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo firstly “used oxygen gas to push the ingredients into the air and then used lasers to melt them”. After a number of different solidifying processes, the glass is finished. If this product can be successfully commercialised it would not only revolutionise smartphone screens, but could also be used in using, cars and many other products.

The implementation of the reinforced glass would be seen as a form of investment or insurance, similar to the introduction of a grease trap into a kitchen. The reinforced glass would stop any potential breakages or cracks, just as the grease trap would stop any potential house floods, drain blockages or sewer disruptions in your municipal sewer systems. The same principals can be applied to our Coffee Guardian. This appliance is attached to the outlet of an expresso coffee machine and it catches the loose coffee grinds that come out in the effluent, thus stopping blockages, clogs and bust pipes.

Luckily enough for the Grease Guardian units, we don’t need to change the design or the materials used to construct the units.
